Case study 01 — Jewellery retail

STM Jewellers

A three-counter showroom in Kottar running on a paper day-book, an Excel sheet nobody trusted, and a savings-scheme register kept in a drawer. We built the software, then rebuilt the brand around it.

Project, then monthly retainer
The problem

Every sale took six minutes and three people.

Gold rate changes daily, sometimes twice. At STM Jewellers, that rate lived on a whiteboard, and each bill was worked out by hand: weight, purity, making charges, wastage, GST, minus whatever the customer brought in as old gold. Six minutes a customer on a good day. On a Saturday in wedding season, a queue.

Stock was worse. Three counters, three registers, no single answer to “do we still have that 22K haram in 34 grams?” And the savings-scheme customers — the ones who pay a little every month towards a purchase — were tracked in a physical register, which meant dues were followed up only when somebody remembered.

The owner had already bought a logo from somewhere. It was fine. It was also nowhere near the actual experience of buying there.

What we built

A dealer system that runs on the counter PC.

Web-based, so the same screen works on the billing machine, the owner's laptop and a tablet on the floor.

  • Rate-linked billing. Today's rate is entered once in the morning. Every bill pulls from it — 22K, 18K, silver — and calculates making charges, wastage and GST automatically.
  • Old-gold exchange. Weight in, purity deduction, value applied against the new purchase on the same bill, with a printed valuation slip the customer keeps.
  • Stock by weight and purity. One live inventory across all three counters, tagged by item, weight, purity and location. Sales deduct from it as they happen.
  • Savings-scheme ledger. Every scheme customer, their instalments, what is paid, what is due, maturity date — with automatic SMS reminders three days before each due date.
  • Day book & GST export. A closing summary at the end of each day, and a single GST-ready export at the end of the month.
  • Roles. Counter staff can bill. Only the owner can change the rate, edit stock, or see the margins.

And then the brand

The software told us what the brand should say.

Three months of clean data made one thing obvious: the shop's real business was not walk-in gifting, it was bridal, and most of it came through scheme customers who had been saving for a year.

So we pointed everything at that. A refreshed identity built for gold on dark surfaces rather than white paper, a bridal-first content calendar, and a single shoot day that produced one film and eleven verticals for reels and WhatsApp status.

The scheme reminders that the software was already sending became the campaign's best channel — a customer three months from maturity is the warmest audience the shop has.

Results

What changed at the counter.

6 min → under 2

Time to complete a bill, including an old-gold exchange. One person can now finish what used to need three.

412

Savings-scheme customers moved off the paper register and onto automatic due reminders.

2 days → 1 export

Monthly GST preparation, which had been two days of retyping from the day-book.

The rate goes on the screen once in the morning and nobody argues about a bill for the rest of the day.
